Just Now:More Than 10 Peoples Die As Building Collapse

In a heart-wrenching incident, a two-storey building gave way under the pressure of torrential rains on Lagos Street, right across from the Garki police station in Garki Village, Federal Capital Territory (FCT). The collapse, which occurred late Wednesday night, has unfortunately led to two confirmed fatalities.

FCT's Emergency Management Agency's Director-General, Dr. Abbas Iddriss, confirmed the saddening news. According to his reports, 37 individuals were successfully pulled out from the debris, but tragically, two were found deceased.

Iddriss further mentioned that those affected by this calamity have been taken to multiple healthcare facilities within FCT. Distressingly, some remain under the debris.

The ongoing heavy rain has hampered the pace of the rescue mission. Dr. Iddriss elaborated on the difficulties, stating, "Despite the rain, our teams, including other helping hands, are doing their utmost. We're urgently trying to get excavation equipment to free those still trapped," as of late Wednesday night.

Iddriss highlighted the severity of the situation and said the rain was making the rescue mission particularly challenging. He reiterated, "Our teams are committed. They're on the ground, pushing forward, albeit at a reduced speed because of the rainfall. The priority is getting equipment to lift the rubble and save those trapped."
